Today I had the delight in trying the famed Frans chocolate Grey Salt Caramels and boy was I tempted to eat just more than one. I was pleasently surprised that the pieces were small so in this box you got 7 little bites of yummy goodness. What makes Frans special not only for there use of natural and organic ingredients but the line is also loved by President Barack Obama. I know that helped us sell a few of the boxes for Valentines gifts. Another yummy treat from Frans that we try and carry is their Gold Bite,s a combo of creamy caramel and roasted almonds covered in rich dark chocolate. Yum !

Sweet Success

Valentines (day) is now over and wow what a crazy last few week we've had. Our Pop Up shop turned out to be a huge success with next to nothing left to bring back to our shop. We are so grateful for the opportunity we had at Holt Renfrew and we look forward to doing it again soon. One of our customers who visited us came back to the store and said we should do it for Easter! So we need to think and re group and see if this is something that could be done. I think hands down I would do it again for Christmas. Being back at the store now coming from such a small set up for 2 weeks, WOW we need to order some more candy and fill this place up! So were looking into Easter and seeing what can be brought in along with now we need to work on our Easter display ideas. I love Easter and all the cute little bunny and little lamb characters and of course the super cute candy that goes along with Spring time. I'll post some more photos of our Pop Up shop soon.

Were Popping Up!

This Valentines Day not only can you check out our shop in Kerrisdale but you can come see us at our Holt Renfrew Pop Up Shop ! We opened for business there Feb.3 and will stay until Valentines Day Feb.14. This is an opportunity to not only sell more product but to get our name out there with a whole new clientele. Were hopeing this weekand will be super busy with gift giving to all the sweethearts and BFF's. What's been popular is class gifts, our twinkle heart pops are already sold out but the next best Valentine for kids to give to there friends are the conversation boxes. A fun thing we brought to the Pop Up Shop also is our mini Pucker Powder machine. A sweet way to say Pucker Up ! to a loved one. All you do is fill a tube with your desired flavoured sugar then close and we can ribbon it for you.
So if you haven't already got your sweets for your sweet then head on over to Holt Renfrew in downtown Vancouver or our Kerrisdale store and stock up on some yummy treats.

New website is coming very soon! I am so excited as it's going to be amazingly wicked and yummy! ( if a website can be yummy?!) Well this one will be so it doesn't really matter. Everything is going to POP and make you want to grab the candy right from the screen! Wouldn't that be cool though to grab stuff out of the screen ! Like Willy Wonka's teleport through TV ! Yum. Were also going to be selling candy online with our new shopping cart we are adding. This means a lot more work for me to do :-( But I am ready cause I know it will be great and really bring Frankies to a "whole nother level". Frankies is going to take over! I only wish but hey you never know.

Summer Love

It's well into Summer but it sure doesn't feel like it. The only thing I feel is the hotness inside in store which def. helps the gummies stay soft! So that's a plus. Summer at Frankies has been a busy one as we have done more candy buffets than last year and several Birthday parties also. It's always fun to put candy buffets together as each one is unique depending on the special event. We just did one for Samsung/Rogers where we had to have all red, white and black candy with a little bit of music inspired candies. Next coming up is a vintage inspired candy buffet with candies in the pale muted tones. I just need to figure out how to combine lace into the mix with what we already have to use. So pretty! I can't wait to see the end result. In the Birthday department we just booked another one for August but now need to come up with some fun new candy games. So I am on the search for some ideas. Maybe a game using the marshmallow shooters? We will have to play around and see what we can come up with that six years can do.

Well I need to get back to eating candy, have a sweet day!

Sunny Days

Sunshine lollipops and rainbows and gummy bears too! Can you imagine what it would be like if the weather produced candy. Now wouldn't that be delicious! A cross between two movies I've seen Cloudy With A Chance Of Meatballs and Bedtime Stories. I would definitely ask for a sandwich right about now, so hungry and I'm trying not to eat candy to fill my hunger pains. The only thing that is working right now are some elmo crackers I had in my purse. I knew there was a reason why I always stuffed my bag with stuff even when my daughter isn't with me. Thanks Peyton but I'm eating all your treats!

Spring a New Beginning

I'm not sure if it's the fact that we've been open a total of 6 years (including our years in Dundarave) or just the fact that people actually admitting to themselves that they love candy and just have to have it or should I say have to have "Frankies"candy! But this past month(s) have been so amazingly good for us that I can't wait to see what the next few months have in store for us. Last week in particular was super busy with a huge order from Google which entitled me to make 8 super fun candy ball center pieces! Then a Around The World themed candy buffet for Reportex, and a massive candy buffet for a wedding consisting of 450 guests! Oh and Sunday morning we hosted yet another Birthday Party that went over really well with the 9 year old girls. I don't think I would have been 100% (or close to that) if it wasn't for my daughter sleeping through the night all last week, it felt so good to not wake up at 1:00am. Back to our Birthday parties, kids have been spreading the word about them and now everyone wants one! Well who wouldn't want there Birthday party in a candy store that is closed just for them, candy crafts, candy games and of course eating a tonne of candy! We just booked our first all boy party so that will be interesting as we will need to tweak a few games so there's not a focus on danging :-) Maybe our worms and dirt will be a hit with them.

Nothing beats fresh popcorn. I wish I had my own portable popper at home as I'm sorry (Orville Redenbacker) but you can't beat this taste even with your new bowl bag. Now I just have to stock up on some Kernels seasoning mixes then I am set for any party. Speaking of party now I can use the machine for all of our Birthday parties that we have host at the store. It's perfect! Cotton candy and fresh popcorn, they're going to love it!

Pucker Up!

Pucker up with something sour at Frankies Candy Bar. Finally something sour enough to make me sweat. We've carried them for awhile but I've never tried them, Pop Rocks extreme mini tubes. I would have never tried them but my sister and I were trying to come up with fun candy rims for drinks so we tried the pop rocks then just ate the rest. My sister's tongue was def. torn up a bit after! ouch but she's ok now :-) What makes them sour is this super sour powder at the bottem, like if Impact Confections made warheads as a powder this is what it would taste like. The next sour thing that made me sweat was the new Sour Punch Straws for easter. There called "Strikin Strawberry" ( not sure on the name and why they spelled it like that). They are the a bubblegum pink sour straw covered in sugar and you get a whole lot of them in the one pack. I took them on our hike yesterday and I couldn't stop eating them! I had to eat some spits to get the taste out of my mouth or else I would have eat like 24 straws all by myself. That has happened before though with the Haribo spaghetti sour straws! DELICIOUS!!
So if you are looking for a gift for a sour lover then either one of these you can't go wrong with.

In the groove.

When your in the groove of something keep on going as when you stop for a second you might get distracted or just get out of the groove. I've always been creative and loved crafting but since having a baby my brain litteraly has shut off and trying to get creative and make things has been really hard. Recently we were thinking of our future and what we want to achieve and it made me realize that I need to start focusing more and just try. What harm can trying do? Well the other day I took Peyton to the book store and bought some new books. She loves book and I love reading to her. Well I bought this one book in particular because I wanted it to inspire Peyton when she is a little older. It's called " Dream Big" starring Olivia. It has several quotes from famous people and it just made me want to be creative. So yesterday I took out some canvases and my scrapbook supplies and went to town on these 2 canvas's. The plan is to sell them at our store then possibly show them to other retail gift boutiques to sell. I'm not entirely in the groove but I am happy to have made something that I can say wow I am talented how come I stopped?

Another Holiday down, well actually not a Holiday as we don't get it off so let's say Celebration? Ok well whatever it is today I had the task of taking it all down and storeing it away until next year. It's always hard to put together a window display when you have another Celebration only a few months away, Easter. So for now the window is just our normal everyday window until I can come up with something that pops! for Birthdays or something. Easter will be a fun display but I am trying to still figure out what we can blow up and have in the window. Our Dundarave store was a lot smaller and had a nook for the display so we could display fun figurines and such but with this store and all the kids that love to touch everything and anything it is hard to put stuff in the window without it getting damaged. I also had the joys of organizing our back room! So much fun as I can't stand mess and things out of there place when there is plenty of room on the shelves. So a few hours later and I'm pretty much done just have a few bins that need to be stored.

Happy Valentines Day to all the lovebirds in the world and all those who haven't found that special someone in their lives. Even though this day is marked so that your significant other showers you with love why not make every day filled with love! At home we let Peyton know how much we love her to pieces and to eachother before work in the morning. Don't get me wrong there are days we don't say it and don't kiss hello once home for work. It feels weird not to like were some old married couple. In the paper today there was an article on a couple who've been together for 65+ years and there motto was "don't try and change eachother". That definitely is the key as why are you together in the first place right? Love eachother for who you are.

My sister gave me the most amazing roses I have ever seen! Can you tell by my picture? I don't usually care for roses as they always die on me so I was a little hesitant when I saw how many there were, 4 dozen! She said they are fare trade and that one dozen regular roses would have cost the same. I still don't believe it and next time I go to Whole Foods I'll be sure to check to see if they have them instock. The colour pink they are is breathtaking and I love how they fill our room with love. So thank you sister I love you.

Valentines Day is just around the corner and what better way to let your sweetie know you love them by giving them something SWEET from Frankies! We have put together some really cute candy grams that everyone will love. A few weeks ago I got back in the groove of crafting and made some cute heart tags to attach to our packaging. It definitely makes a difference having a decorative tag on anything, it completes the look and that is something we want show off. Now I'm addicted to Michaels Craft Store so I had to go and stock up on a few more punches and stamps. I wish they had a better selection of stamps as I'm not used to the new silicon type ones but I bought a Martha Stewart starter pack to test them out. I couldn't find a heart punch that I liked and that was big enough so luckily on one of my cricut cartridges there is a heart so then I can cut out what ever size I want. I think now with every good bag we make up were going to add a tag but maybe not for the boys as they don't appreciate things like that like girls. Or maybe I can make a robot cut out or something to attach? I'll have to brainstorm and make some samples up. I'd love to make up some wrap tags to go around chocolate bars so that the every day chocolate bar can be seasonalized. I guess I have something else to add to the list.

Only 2 more days will we close the doors on our West Van location. It always amazes me how fast time goes but this year has flown by just like that already. I need to buy more rubber maid containers to pack all the candy up then hopefully sell a few more pieces of furniture so we don't have to store it in our locker. I am definitely sad to leave west van since I've been here for 4.5 years but time to move on to better things for Frankies. I am really looking forward to being able to create new things with packaging and contacting cooperate business to potentially book candy buffets and all that stuff. Next weekand my sister and I are heading to LA to do some research for Valentines and see if we can find new and yummy candies to bring into the store. I am really looking forward to this trip a much needed break from all this crazy moving business.

Only 2 more sleeps till Christmas. Are you ready? cause I am not. I don't really know why this always happens to me as I know Christmas is coming and the fact that the day doesn't change I should be prepared after all these years. I just figured out last night what to get for my sister who is incredibly hard to buy for. I can't really say what I am getting as she might read this :-) Let's just say I don't know why I didn't think of it like over a week ago. Now all I have to do is go buy some vegan peanut butter to make peanut butter balls for my brother and then I am done, I think? Oh well, at least Superstore is open 24 hours now! I can head on over there once my daughter is asleep and husband is watching hockey.

Lovely Scribbles

Checking out some blogs today to get some inspiration for the upcoming year and all the candy buffets we are going to be doing :-) I came across this "lovely scribbles" blog and the girl does the most amazing cards and tags with all hand drawn calligraphy. I wish I had nice hand writing to start with but maybe with practice I can create some beautiful fonts of my own. Then use them for our candy buffets and goody bags, or maybe even make and sell some cards in the store? Why not. I think it starts with the pen so I will head on over to Staples and buy a nice pen then practice practice practice :-)

Vosges

I just nibbled on some Vosges Blood Orange Caramel Bar and boy was it divine. I was reading on the back of the packaging and it explains how to enjoy an exotic candy bar. So here it goes.

Breathe...Engage your senses. Take three deep ujjayi breaths, quiet the chattering mind and be in the present moment.

See...There should be a glossy shine to the chocolate bar indication a tight bond between the cocoa butter and the cocoa mass.

Smell...Rub your thumb in the chocolate bar's surface to help release the peppermint notes. Inhale deeply.

Snap...Break the bar in two pieces. Hear a crisp, ringing pop, which indicates a well-tempered bar of chocolate. You will hear the loudest snap with dark chocolate, soft break with milk and a faint whisper with white.

Taste...Place a small piece of chocolate on your tongue and press it to the roof of your mouth. Within thirty seconds the chocolate square will begin to melt, revealing layers of revitalizing peppermint amongst deep, dark chocolate.

Tea for Two

I brought some cotton candy home to see how long it stays fluffy as I would like to start using it in our candy buffets. Instead of just leaving the bag open or puting some on the table I saw my tea cups and thought, cute! I love the contrast of the dainty, pretty and poised tea cups filled with fun and crazy cotton candy. I can`t wait to use them in

my next candy buffet. Then after seeing how amazing the tea cups looked I grabbed one of my buffet jars and voila cotton candy in a giant martini glass. So much fun for any party, I`m going on half and hour now so I`m crossing my fingers it last at least an hour more.

It's Saturday and I'm working but at least it's blue sky's outside. I have Elf playing on tv and a store full of customers buying all sorts of treats to fill stockings for there loved ones. A popular item today has been the Crave Vancouver, the ultimate guide of the places women crave in Vancouver including more than 150 women you need to know. It's a great gift for the savvy mom or daughter who wants to know about some amazing business plus a tonne of discounts. Of course Frankies is featured in the book and we are so happy to be apart of all the wonderful ladies. We can't wait to meet them all and hopefully do business with them. I need to get my act together asap as I'd like to approach a few of them to see if they would want to sell our Frankies Surprise Cones. I beautiful decorative paper cone filled with all sort of sweets from Frankies all wrapped in cello with an array of ribbons and a hand made tag by me.

Oh I just saw a scene on Elf where Buddy drinks a whole 2 litre of coke and then pours a whole bottle of syrup on his spaghetti! Yuck. I love sugar but that is just a little too much for me. But it does make me want some pancakes :-)

Baby it's cold outside

Brrrrr it's cold outside, glad to be inside today. Last night I had a craving for a big bag full of gummies and I didn't have any stock at home so I had some Breyers Brownie fudge ice cream. It didn't satisfies my craving but it helped :-) I will still have to wait to have my big bag of candy as tomorrow I'm getting in my favorite candy CENTIPEDES from Haribo. So yummy I love them. But I will have to have something today and that candy shall be clotted cream fudge. An English treat that's creamy, caramely and fudgie all wrapped into one. Another yummy English candy are millions chewy candies, kind of like nerds but chewy.

Advent Calendars

Every year I always want to bring in or design an advent calendar for Frankies. I guess I'll have to wait another year as tomorrow is Dec. 1 and I have nothing. Today lots of customers came in to buy little treats to fill calendars for there kids. Candy cane pop rocks, mini hamburgers & hotdogs, foiled chocolates and lollypops are some things they purchased. It's hard to find things other than candy to fit in those small boxes but what kid won't like opening a box every day to find a yummy sweet treat! I searched online for some inspiration and maybe I can create something for Birthday's?? Like some people have Birthday weeks so maybe we can celebrate Birthday month? That would be cool, even if you didn't fill it with candy or toys you could fill it with special notes and wishes for that special someone. Wow I really like this idea, I might just go and buy or make something as a sample and go from there.

Candy Buffet

I love doing candy buffets! I'm doing one right now for McDonald's head office tomorrow. So many candies to choose from it's always hard to decide which ones will work and that everyone will love and eat. This buffet needs to be WOW as the girl who booked it said now at every meeting they have some sort of candy and everyone wants to out do one another. So it is my job to impress everyone now. Yikes! I already did a buffet for them at the Wall Center last month but this one is just a mini candy buffet. I was able to find a red table cloth to go with there signature colors and I will also make tags for each jar using yellow and red ribbon... So I went this morning and set up the buffet and just heard back from them and everyone loved it! The candy buffet was a hit. The one thing I wish I had made was a back drop to lean up against the wall to kind of bring the attention more on the candy and not the surroundings. I have an idea to paint some fun words on a canvas then attach these giant papermache lollypops on it. In my mind I think it will look amazing and will add another WOW factor to the candy buffet. Now I can't wait for the next one so I can bring it all together.

Christmas time already?

The Halloween decorations are barely down and Christmas trees and wreaths are already up! Well at least in the shopping malls. How did it ever get this way. It seems like every year the stores start the Holiday displays a few days earlier than last. I guess Frankies is already behind as we won't be decorating until next weekand. Don't get me wrong I love Christmas and all of its fun and whimsical trees and ornaments! Our trees are amazing in the store, they make me want to have Christmas morning right here in a candy filled wonderland. Christmas is going to be lots of fun this year because my daughter will be one years old and will be able to enjoy (somewhat) all the fun things it brings. Pictures with Santa, The Christmas Train, Snow!!! I can't wait to get our Holiday shipments in starting next week, but I am not looking forward to not getting some items that we were so looking forward to get. We are still on the hunt for some unique Hostess gifts and class handouts but I am sure we will think of something. Oh and this year I am definitely making a gingerbread house! It's going to be out of this world yummy :-) I can't wait.

Chocoholic

Chocolate, Chocolate and more chocolate! Sometimes candy just doesn't cut it and you need some smooth and creamy ( or dark) chocolate. From dark chocolate covered cashews to Mo's Bacon chocolate bar, you can find anything these days covered in chocolate. One of my favorites right now has to be (and everyone's) are the chocolate covered gummy bears. The best of both worlds, you can't beat it. They now are available in both white and dark chocolate and we currently have in stock the white but are still waiting for the dark to be released to us retailers. I can't wait!! We have so many ccb fans it's crazy. People buy huge bags full and always ask for no twist tie :-) LOL What I like to do with them is eat them with our fruit juice berries, the best combo ever. Another fav of mine right now are the chocolate dipped Oreo's yummmmy. You definitely can only eat a couple as the sweetness of them allows you only to eat 2 or 3. Unless you like sweet things then by all means eat as many as you like :-)

Some more delicious chocolate Frankies carries are the Yorkie bar and other English chocolate bars, Scrumdillyumptios Wonka bar, Chocolove, Vosges, smores, Chuao and chocolate caramels!

Spooooooooky

Halloween is slowly arriving at Frankies Candy Bar. Just started decorating our Kerrisdale store and just a few more touches and we will be done! A must see when you come to the store is our larger than life glitter skeleton heads! They are so MASSIVE that you can put them over your head and still have room. Next chance I get I'm definitely going to take a picture of it on and post it so you can see. I'm going to start decorating our Dundarave store tomorrow once I collect everything from our attic. Maybe I can add some real spiders to the mix too as you never know what's in the attic at home. Rats, spiders, gummy bears oh my!! I love Halloween, or maybe I just love all the fun spooky things you get to buy to decorate! My parents go all out with there display at home too by adding a full on graveyard with smoke, a enormous spider on the front window and a crazy cackling witch. Oh and you can't forget all the pumpkins 7 to be exact, one for each of us made my me and my brother. I'll post some pics of our house too along with both stores later this week.

Goody Bags Galore!

I love making up goody bags, they are so much fun! You can get so creative with them, the sky is the limit on what you can put together. I just finished up some Frankies takeout surprises for a boys Birthday on Saturday. They are going to love them! Skewers have also been super popular this past week. How can you not love candy on a stick? It's so eye appealing and yummy. They're even great to add on top of a gift with lots of ribbon for a special treat. Oh and I also just created a Frankies Surprise Cone. Seeing candy is great but not knowing what's inside is SUPER great! Lol

Pucker Up!

Pucker up with Twin Drops, a super sour liquid candy you squirt in your mouth! Now I'm a huge fan of sour candy and nothing really makes my face pucker but these Twin Drops did just that.You get two flavours in a snap top bottle blue raspberry, green apple or strawberry. Squeeze one then the other or squeeze them both into your mouth. I love that you can control how much you want then close the lid and save for later. Come down to Frankies and buy some if you dare!

Mini Melts now at Frankies!

Come cool off with some Mini Melts, the coldest ice cream in the world! Now at Frankies Candy Bar.

If you love ice cream but want a change then you must try Mini Melts. There little pieces of yumminess in flavours cotton candy, cookies and cream, banana split and mint chocolate. I've stopped eating candy for the last week and have just been stuffing my face with them! They are so addicting I love that there tiny circle like chunks cause it makes it more fun to eat. The only bad thing is that you have to eat them super fast so they don't melt! But I guess that's not really a bad thing after all :-) My favourite is banana split and cookies and cream. The great thing that we do is have them in the bulk so you are not stuck with getting just one flavour, you can get 2 or 3 if you want.

A year has past and there are so many new things here at Frankies Candy Bar. First off we opened a second location in Kerrisdale 8 months ago. Twice the size of the original which means way more eye candy to choose from !! I also had a baby girl and she is now 9 months old!! Crazy how time fly's by so quickly. I love having the new store because we get to order tonnes of new candy and more of it! Some things that are popular right now are anything Hello Kitty, (Nintendo) Mario candy, chocolate covered gummy bears, handmade Japanese erasers and Vosges Mo's Bacon Bar in both milk and dark chocolate. I know your thinking " a bacon chocolate bar?" I'm kind of in the middle with it, I don't not like it but I don't like it either. You have to love bacon to eat this bar that's for sure. We just had a photo shoot at the new store so I'll post some pics as soon as I get them from the photographer. Then you can see how amazing Frankies Candy Bar in Kerrisdale is!

Summer Candy FUN!

It's well into Summer and I have so fallen behind in my posts :-( Tonnes of new candy that came in and also some more exciting news... I'm expecting a little Frankie! Due in Nov. and boy has time flown by already.

Ok so back to what's new @ Frankies. Let's see Gummy Popcorn, a fun candy perfect for any movie night or backyard picnic. Each box has a mix of strawberry, watermelon and lemon popcorn, can you guess which one your eating? They even look like popped popcorn! We also have cool new Skull candies in our Pick & Mix selection, perfect for this year's Halloween party for a festive treat. One of my favourites we have in right now is Haribo's Starmix. A mixed bag of tiny gummies in the shapes of fried eggs, hearts, friendship rings, cola bottles and gummy bears. I'm always a sucker for any confections from Haribo :-) Yummy! We also were able to bring in handmade lollies custom made for us that read I (heart) Candy! They are super cute and the best gift to give anyone visiting Vancouver and if you just want a fun candy to have in a bowl at home :-)

A visit with the Dentist

The dreaded dentist appointment, I never really enjoyed going but who does? My teeth and gums are a little sensitive so I won't be having any candy today or maybe for the next few days. The Wonka Sweetart Rope is another candy that mixes two of your favourites into one. Sweetarts and nerds combine to make a soft cherry rope with a blue creamy nerdy center.

This is a fun candy to eat if you love the taste of cherry and a fondant type cream. I wish that they made the filling a little more sour as the outside is sweet and needs that extra tartiness in the middle. Or maybe they should try a different flavour instead of cherry maybe strawberry or blue raspberry would be good or even grape then a cherry filling. I myself am not a fan of cherry anything and that's basically all that the rope is. I cut into the rope and did see lots of nerds but looks like they have disinegrated a bit from being mixed with the creamy center.

If your a fan of Wonka candy then you must try the Sweetart Rope as it might not be here for much longer as the oompa loompas are always coming up with crazy new candies at the Willy Wonka Factory!

A chew fruity candy with a crunchy candy shell. The great thing about Rowntree's is that they don't use any artifical colours or flavours instead use real fruit juice from strawberries, lemon, apple, orange and my favourite blackcurrent. Never before have I tried blackcurrent candy besides their Blackcurrent Pastilles .

Tooty Frooties are a great treat to give the little ones as an after school special treat. Hey when it's made with real fruit juice you won't feel bad giving your kids candy. But hey I always say everything in moderation, don't deprive yourselves from the sweet life of candy!

JB Bubblge Gum

JB Bubble Gum what a mouth full this gum is. You never know how much gum your gonna be chewing up with just one gumball but with this one one is more than enough. At first I couldn't do anything until I worked it in my mouth to a blowing bubble consistency. The package reads that each 5 flavors are true to the Jelly Belly beans flavor and right now I have blueberry in my mouth. It didn't smell like blueberry but had a hint of flavor. I expected a more intense flavor like there beans but maybe on the next one so let's see. Ok now I'm chewing Juicy Pear and I can definetly taste pear. The gumball was yellow so I thought it wouldn't taste like pear but I was wrong.

I would try the rest but I'm kind of gumed out right now so I'll have to finish the rest later and let you know how Very Cherry, Tangerine and Watermelon taste.

TOPPS candy company just came out with a new candy thats named WAZOO. They describe it as a chewy fruity candy sprinkled with crunchies candy bar. Now this isn't your normal candy bar. When you think of candy bar's you think of chocolate & caramel or any otherchocolate bar combo but not actual candy.

I first saw this bar online and was happy to see it in Bellingham last week so I picked up one of each flavor, Blue Razz and Wild Berriez. I tried the Wild Berriez and to be honest was a little anxious to bite into it. I took a little bite and right away loved the crunchies that cover the top of the bar. They are kind of like nerds but not as good. The berry taste was really predominant which was nice cause sometimes when they say the flavor you don't even taste it or smell it. Also I loved the colour of the candy bar, purple on the outside with pink and yellow chewy center.

I recommened the Wazoo candy bar to anyone who likes their candy on the sweeter side and the taste of berries.

What they do is cut and paste images that are related to candy and create new works of art. They also write where they get there links from so credit is given where needed which is nice. I was talking to my boyfriend and asked him what should I write about today and he suggested rainy day candy since it's raining in Vancouver right now ( nothing new but still).

Now candy is good to eat any time but especially when it's raining outside. The rain just makes you blah and sleepy and you need a sweet pick me up to get you through the work day. Candy makes people happy and that's a proven fact :-) So what makes me happy are Haribo gummies, sour belts, 70% cacao chocolate and Jelly Belly's. Now when I make my bulk bags I usually like to keep the non-sour gummies away from the sours. Why you ask, well because I don't like when some non-sour gummies have sour powder on them that's why there plain gummies to begin with. But that's just me :-)

I just decorated for Easter and the store looks awesome! I love all the fun colours and feathery decorative accessories I get to use for the front window, it really catches your eyes when walking by :-).

We have lots of fun things to put in baskets and for Easter egg hunts such as Chick n' Chat, Lightning Bunnies, speckled egg bubblegum cartons and Easter lip pops! Haribo Fruity Rotella pink wheels! We just got them in the other day and im already addicted to them. They are super yummy and flavorful with kind of a floral undertone. I love that you can unwind them and swing them around or braid the colours together then eat them! They are perfect to use on our Frankies skewers since there is already a hole in the center. There are 4 flavors and they all come mixed in bulk. The flavors include apple (green), raspberry (red), apricot (orange) and banana (yellow). I love that German candies have different and sometimes exotic flavours instead of the normal cherry, apple, lemond and grape.

I can't wait for movie night tonight so I can make a bag of yummy gummies!

Cadbury's Wispa

A new shipment of English chocolates has just arrived at Frankies Candy Bar!

Cadbury's wispa bar was first on my list to sample as I've heard so much about this bar from a girlfriend in England. What it is is an aerated milk chocolate bar, kind of like our Areo but way better chocolate. After googling wispa I found out that it came out in 1983 then was discontinued then brought back (after frequent requests from consumers) in 2003 and then re-launched in 2007.

I love that the bar is small as I'm not usually a fan of milk chocolate of any kind and also that it's not one single bar but a 5 chunk bar. Great for shareing if their lucky :-)

Candy skewers are so much fun! A great idea to add to any gift or use as a Birthday goody bag ( since all kids love candy). I can't tell you how many I have made. When I'm making them in the store I always sell them before I'm even done so I've learned to be super quick and now I know what candies look good and are easy to put on the skewer.

I was just going through some magazine cutouts and I came across one about chocolate's skin benefits. It goes on saying that ingesting certain compounds in cocoa can smooth the skin and decrease its sensitivity to the sun. A study in Germany, women who drank a cocoa beverage high in antioxidants called flavonols daily experienced reduced skin redness in response to UV light exposure-15% less than usual after six weeks and 25% less at 12 weeks-while a group given a low-flavonol cooa drink had no change. They also showed significant improvements in their skins' texture and hydration, which investigators believe were attributable to measurably improved blood flow to the skin.

Now I can drink to that ! A nice hot "chocolate" drink is on my list to go have. I'll have to make a trip over to Mink for some but right now I'll eat some Ghirardelli Twilight 72%.

Candy that you can build with then eat it when your done! How cool is that. They're about the same size as the toy but don't have the snap when you put the pieces together. The candy itself is compressed dextrose candy or chalk candy, kind of like a Sweetart.

Candy Blox are the perfect gift to give to any kid (young or old) and at Frankies they are a big hit for Birthday goody bags.

What I would love to see is or maybe I should google it, is to see if anyone has posted what they have built using the candy. Now that would be cool and if I find some I'll be sure to post them.

I love when new candy comes in and the taste testing that you get to do :-) Toxic Waste recently came out with Hi-Voltage Bubble Gum. Over 2 feet of gum with a shockingly sour core! Each pack comes with 3 flavours ( Amp'd Apple, Surgin' Strawberry and Blackout Blue Razz)each is separately wrapped to keep the freshness in.

I was surprised to see how much gum you actually get because from the pictures I've seen online the package looked small like the size of there Sludge Bar. I tried the blue and at first there was no taste but once I got chewing the sour just hit me and my mouth started watering. The flavour didn't last too long so I had to spit it out as I'm not a fan of chewing gum of any kind what so ever not even minty gum. But hey I have to try things right!

I recently ordered for the store Yummy Earth's organic lollypops after reading about them online. I didn't know what to expect but I was pleasantly surprised! I was never a fan of lollypops or even hard candy but these are SO addicting :-) They are made with ALL natural flavors, real fruit extracts and are wheat free, nut free, soy free and dairy free! Tis the season to be jolly! I love everything about this time of year, from the decorating to all the yummy holiday treats! Frankies is already set and ready for Christmas this year ( check out store pics on Frankies Candy Bar facebook page) so you better come quick before all the super cool stocking stuffer are all gone! We have lots of new candy this year from make your own bubblegum, Peppermint crunch Jr.Mints, Christmas colour chocolate covered sunflower seeds and many more yummy treats.
I just tried the peppermint crunch Jr.Mints and I'm hooked! I've actually never had a Jr.Mint before ( no I'm not joking) so I didn't know what to expect. The box said they are made with real candy candy to give it that crunch taste but I didn't feel that much of a crunch, maybe a little but not enough. I really liked the flavour and the creaminess of the Jr.Mint. It's a nice after dinner snack or coffee treat, I think I have to go get a coffee now cause I'm craving peppermint crunch Jr.Mints. Recently I was away and had a stop over in Paris ( I love Paris) for a few days so I thought I could try and find some cool new candy, and boy did I ever. My boyfriend and I had stopped in a local mart for some water and of course I had to check out there selection of sweets and low and behold I found gummy Smurfs! Yes Smurfs, the cute blue and white cartoons from my childhood. I snatched up a bunch of them to take home with me, our suitcases were overflowing by the time we got home. That night we ate some (the whole bag) and I wish I had bought more of them. We even dunked them in our wine to try and see if they would soak up the flavor and yup they did! Next trip to Paris I'm making sure im there for at least 3 days as I plan on heading down to Marseilles to the Haribo factory! I keep checking out there website and dreaming of that day I get to see how my favourite candy is made. Yummy!

On rainy days like this, nothing sounds better than a huge bag of candy, sitting on the couch and watching a movie. I can see it right now, my bag would be filled with turtles, sour berries, jelly babies, Haribo starmix and sour belts! hmmm yummy. I would normally like to try new things on movie nights but I just can't get enough of my favourite gummies. A new gummy that should be arriving next week are gummy chicken feet from Spain! The same makers of my turtles & whales, so we'll see how well people take to the yellow/orange chicken feet candy. Oh ya I am also getting in gummy monkeys, they looked pretty cute so I had to order them and who doesn't love monkeys.

My sis and I just got back from this years All Candy Expo in Chicago and boy were we all Smiles! A 3 day event where you can sample candies from the US, Germany, Turkey and even Dubai. We didn't know where to begin so we just went up and down each aisle and (asked) for samples of the candies we thought were cool. New this year are Wonka Giant Chews which are an egg shaped bumpy candy shell with a chewy nerd center and they come in cute 50g bags, the perfect snack size candy. Tootsie also came out with new Pop Drops Tootsie Pops. All the yummy flavour of the Tootsie lolly pop without the stick! ( last year they came out with Blow Pop Minis)
This year they also had a section for "Gourmet Chocolate" and I had to order Chocolove and Chocolatour- chocolate bars. Made in Boulder, Colorado each Chocolove bar comes with its very own Love Poem written inside the wrapper and each Chocolatour bar comes with an outline of the origin of each bar. Amazing quality and packaging ( Coming soon, June 2008)

I can't seem to get enough of those chewy caramel treats. Charlotte's Confections makes the most amazing traditional vanilla caramel bite size treats. Soft and creamy without the sticking to your teeth added bonus. Another one of my favourite are the Walkers Toffees in both chocolate and licorice flavours. I'm not a huge fan of licorice but these are really addicting! They're kind of hard at first so you really have to work them in your mouth or else eat them like a hard candy. The perfect grab and go sugar fix for a walk on the seawall!

Only 37 days until Christmas! Yayyyyy. I love Christmas and all that it has to offer, especially all the homemade goodies to stuff your face with. I already finished decorating Frankies for the Holidays and boy does it look AMAZING! A must see if your in West Vancouver or have nothing else to do on a rainy day like today. From a giant cupcake nutcracker to a twinkle 3D Train Set and ofcourse all the Christmas sweets to go with. My favourite thing this year has to be the Haribo Starmix/ Selection box. A 600g box (yes 600g in one box) of all of Harbio's favourite gummies; bears, mini fried eggs, gummy rings, cola bottles, fizzy cola and dinosaurs!! The perfect gift to give and receive.

I love MARSHMALLOWS!

So my sister and I had a bet starting Sept. 1st that we could only have candy once a week, well the first week went alright but then it all went downhill from there. I was 1 day shy of being able to eat candy but I went ahead anyways because I needed to try some new things. So this is what I tried: Mini Mallow Pretzels, a soft & mushy marshmallow shaped pretzel covered in sugar. They come in a pack of 12 with 4 flavours mango, green apple, strawberry and banana. I tried the mango and liked that it kind of melted in my mouth but wish there was more flavour and not so much sugar coating.
From the same line they make mallow burgers, fried, hot dogs, pizzas and 2 new ones that also just came out is the mallow donut (which I will be trying very soon). The burger was pretty tasty but I could only eat half then gave the rest to my dad (I love that dads will finish off whatever you don't eat!). I liked that you could taste the vanilla, banana and chocolate in the burger instead of just eating a plain giant marshmallow. These novelty mallows are great for birthday gifts and school lunches!
One thing I need to try is roasting a mallow dog or burger in a fire and see if they toast like regular kraft marshmallow, I will let you know if my experiment works.

To show you how much I love candy this next post is from a package I ordered off the web from Germany! I have all the candy in the world at my finger tips but I couldn't resist these super cute Happy Hippo. Just look at them, there filled with hazelnut cocao cream and are coated in crunchy crisp like chocolate pieces. YUMMY! I can't get enough of them, but I have to resist some what as I only have 5 left until I re-order or fly to Europe for some more hippos.

Yesterday we took our relatives from Austria to Whistler, the home of the 2010 Olympics. It wasn't supposed to rain but we made the most of our trip and so did hundreds of other people. We happened to stumble on the annual Farmers Market held at the Blackcomb Village, from hand made chocolates, blown glass to bison burgers! There was plenty to see and buy at the market and we did buy a lot of goodies. Our first find was Sarahendipity fine chocolates & confections, locally made chocolates for market selling only. From PB&J to chocolate passion fruit caramel, she had all the best combos. We bought a box of 15 that set us back $21, which is not too bad as they're all hand made and beautifully decorated. I love anything marshmallow so I was happy to see (and love) cinnamon marshmalow with dark chocolate. The marshmallow wasn't too sweet (i dont like sweet marshmalow) and she used just the right amount of cinnamon (which I just read on msn health&fitness that cinnamon helps control blood sugar levels which is a + for diabetics). So if your heading to Whistler check out the farmers market and try some Sarahendipity chocolates.

Hey! My name is Frankie and I "love" candy. In september of 2006 I opened up Frankies Candy Bar, a candy lovers dream come true. Located in West Vancouver, Canada, a boutique like candy store offering candies from around the world. It's been an amazing first year, I am so blessed that the community has embraced a candy store and let me satisfy there sweet tooth. Gummies are my thing I can't get enough of them. I don't eat that much chocolate but when I do it has to be dark, atleast 70% cocao. A few of my favourites are gummi filled turtles from Spain (a combo of marshmallow and jelly gummi), Centipedes from Hungary (true to its shaped but brightly coloured) and anything SOUR! There has yet to be a candy that has made a sour pucker face on me, so if you know of one thats "super sour" please tell me.

Through out my travels I'm always sampling and searching for new candy and I want to share it with others, so with this blog you will be able to find out about fun and exciting new candy from around the world.
